Born in 1978 and sired by the European great Furioso II, this horse grew up with the name Friesengeist. He was the European Five Year old horse of the year and spent his six year old season as a breeding stallion. Rodney Jenkins found the horse in the Netherlands and brought him to Florida in the winter of 1987 to begin what would be an illustrious career. His Grand Prix debut came in 1987 and he finished out his first season with a position on the USET and a 2nd overall in the American Grand Prix Association year-end Championships. 1990 found Heisman under the hands of Michael Matz and the winning continued. Ove a span of four years, this pair emerged victorious at the major Grand Prix stops of Cincinnati, The Hamptop Classic, both the International and National Grand Prix of Mexico, The American Grand Prix Association Championships staged n the Meadowlands, the Florida Open and the Crown Royal Grand Prix in Palm Beach. During the 1992 Olympic Trials, Heisman had just one rail down over the 10 grueling rounds and finished out as the number 1 qualifier for the USET's assault on the Barcelona Summer Games. |
