July 26th, 2010 - Oldenburg Horses Shine at
the USEF/Markel National Young Horse Championships! Fantastic young horses did very well in the 4, 5 and 6 year old dressage divisions at the USEF/Markel National Young Horse Championships held at the Dressage at Lamplight! In the 4 year old division, the Oldenburg Elite Auction gelding, Sakrementer (Samarant x Weiha Cara (Westminster)), ridden by Rick Rockefeller-Silvia and owned by Deborah and Rex Howe of HRH Holdings was ranked third in the Championship test with an outstanding score of 81.80%! The pair had been second in the 4 year old Warm Up test with a score of 80.00%. Deborah and Rex were both on hand with Rick when they purchased the fantastic gelding at the 2009 Oldenburg Fall Elite Auction in Vechta, Germany. The Oldenburg gelding, Federer (Fidertanz x Rosalea (Rubinstein I) did very well for his new owner, Helen Markoglu, and rider, Lisa Postleb. The pair were 7th in the Warm Up test with a score of 74.00%, and 7th in the Championship test with an excellent score of 75.60%. Federer was bred, and until recently, was owned by Nancy Holowesko of Crosiadore Farm. Helen is an amateur rider and was very complimentary of the work Ulla did to get Federer started and ready for this championship. Lisa is obviously doing a great job with him, and will be keeping him in training for Helen together with Lisa's father Ron Postleb in Brewster, NJ.
Placing 4th in the Warm Up test with a score of 78.00%
and 8th in the Championship test with a score of 75.20%
was De Feiner Star. He is owned by Greg Strait and Melinda
Brown of California, and was ridden by Christopher Schruefer. Meg Sherman of Equistar Farm in Delaware
bought De Feiner Star's dam, Feiner Dance, from Angela Barilar of High
Point Hanoverians when she was in foal with De Feiner Star. The colt is
by Angela's stallion, De Laurentis (De Niro x Chippy (Caprimond)).
Feiner Dance is by Feiner Stern (Freiherr x Goldblatt (Goldsternand))
is out of Maya (Riverman x (Condino)). Placing 7th overall was Sabati (Sandro Hit x Rosalea (Rubinstein I)) bred and owned by Nancy Holowesko of Crosiadore Farm. He is trained and was ridden in this championship by Ulla Parker who was 9th with the gelding in the Preliminary test, and then did very well in the Championship test placing 6th with an excellent score of 79.80%.
Also doing very well in the 5 year old division was the Oldenburg mare, Somerhall (Sir Donnerhall x
Arantscha B (Archipel)), bred in Germany by Theo Berkemeier, and owned
and ridden by Ashley Wimmer. The pair were 7th in the Preliminary test
with a very good score of 76.60% and 11th in the Championship
test with a score of 75.40%. With the help of
Inga Janke, Ashley purchased the mare from Johannes Westendarp in
Osnabruck, Germany and imported her in 2008. She has been training the
mare on her own, and obviously has been doing a great job at it! Ranking 11th in the Preliminary test and 14th in the Championship test in the 6 year old division was Steinway (Sandro Hit x Rosalea (Rubinstein I)) bred and owned by Nancy Holowesko of Crosiadore Farm and ridden by Ulla Parker. Nancy reported that Ulla and Steinway had to ride through a huge downpour in the Preliminary test, but they stuck it out and did very well. Amazingly, Federer, Sabati and Steinway are all out Crosiadore Farm's mare Rosalea. Rosalea is a 1999 Oldenburg mare sired by Rubinstein I and out of Argentina (Argentinus x La Poloma (Luciano)). So a huge congratulations to all of these wonderful horses, owners, breeders, riders, trainers, & grooms who went to such effort to be at this championship and to have done so well!! |

July 23rd, 2010 - Our Deepest Sympathies Go Out to Judy Yancey for the
Loss of Reina H On July 17th, Judy Yancey of Yancey Farms got the kind of call from her barn manager that no one wants to ever get. A mare that was very special to her, and special to Oldenburg breeding, had died in the night. Reina H was only 13 years old, but she produced some outstanding foals including the colt, Sirringo (Sir Donnerhall) that was just licensed last year with accolades from the breeding committee. Reina H was sired by the legendary stallion Rubinstein I and she was out of Judy's foundation Trakehner mare, Helena (Herbststurm x Hoheit IV (Pregel)) who she bought from Gus and Gerhard Schickendanz of Canada in 1977. Helena produced 2 licensed sons and many wonderful sport horses. Reina H's daughter, Dream Rubina (Dream of Glory) is the dam of Perfect Qredit who was the Grand Champion of the 2009 Devon Breed Show as a yearling, and will be presented to the Oldenburg stallion committee in the future. You can read Judy's own touching remembrance of Reina H on her News Page. This beautiful mare will be greatly missed by us all. |

July 20th, 2010 - Carol Di Maggio's Filly, Loretta Lynn, Earns the

Her sister, St.Pr.St. Leane was sold at the 2010 Spring Elite Auction to a buyer from Bavaria. Her other sister Lea is in California and is currently in foal to the Pik Bube son, Pointmaker. July 15th, 2010 - Crodiadore Farm's Biscaya is Champion Mare at the
Maryland MPT, and Earns the Title Special Premium with Outstanding
Scores One of the two East Coast Mare Performance Tests was held today at Crosiadore Farm in Trappe, Maryland, and it was once again Crosiadore Farms that presented the top mare with amazing scores! Biscaya was bred in Germany by Claus Hueppe, and she is sired by the Dutch stallion, Johnson (Jazz x Roxane (Flemmingh). Johnson was in the top ten at the 2007 World Championships for the 5 year old dressage horses and qualified again as a 6 year old in 2008. He was unable to attend, because his rider, Hans Peter Minderhoud was riding in the Olympic Games in Beijing. Biscaya's mare line is very interesting. Her dam, Audrey is sired by the legendary Argentinus who has sired multiple international jumper stars as well as dressage greats such as Albano and Amaretto. Audrey is out of the mare, Gute Reise (Goldstern) who in turn is out of Belinda (Futuro x Besinda II (Adonis)). Belinda is the granddam of Stedinger and her mare family is very well known and highly respected in Oldenburg breeding. Biscaya's dam Audrey presented the Reserve Champion colt at the German National Foal Championships in 2008. He was sired by Sandro Hit. Nancy Holowesko of Crosiadore Farm was aware of what an outstanding lineage the filly had when she noticed her in the catalog of the 2006 Oldenburg Fall Elite Auction held in Vechta, Germany. After seeing videos of her she attended the auction, purchased the filly, and imported her that winter. She has been started and trained by Nancy's resident trainer, Ulla Parker, who has been doing an excellent job with all of Crosiadore Farm's horses. At this MPT she earned an overall score of 8.11 with Biscaya and accolades once again from the breeding committee who flew in from Germany. Nancy and Ulla presented the top mares of the country in both 2008 and 2009; Special Premium Mare Florenzio and Special Premium Candidate Fiderline. The success did not stop there for Crosiadore Farm. They also presented Lalique, a 3 year old mare who has only been under saddle for a couple of months. Ulla did a great job with her and they were awarded an overall score of 7.67 and again the Special Premium title. Lalique also won the free jumping portion of the test. Lalique was bred by Nancy and she is sired by Stedinger (Sandro Hit x Bold Fantasy (Landadel)). Her dam, Vb.Pr.St. La Donnarina (Donnerhall x La Fayette (Pik Bube)) is a full sister to the top Dutch sire, Don Primaire, and closely related to Dream of Diamond who stands at the Main Stud in Neustadt/Dosse. Nancy was very happy with Lalique's rideability given that she is so young and inexperienced. She stated, "Of all the horses I have had go in shows over the years, Lalique made me the most proud today. She never said no even when she became very tired." Nancy was also ecstatic about her 2010 generation of foals. Her filly, Balenciaga CF (Furstenball x Brianna (Harvard)) was named Top Foal of the inspection and was given the Premium title. Nancy's filly, Aura CF (Belissimo x Sp.Pr.Mr. Aussprache (Licotus)) and her colt, Fuerst Knight (Fuerst Romancier x Tahiti (Lamentos)) were also both awarded Premiums. So another big congratulations to Nancy, Ulla and the whole Crosiadore Team!! |

Prezioso S (Pilox x Lynsianda (Syndikat)) showed a great deal of talent as a young stallion, and was purchased at the 57th Oldenburg Spring Elite Auction in 2002 by Joan Sims of Highlife Farms in Orlando, Florida. He then went on to qualify for the 2002 World Championships for the Young Horses as well as the 2002 Bundeschampionate in Germany. He is sired by Highlife's stallion, Pilox (Pilot x Anja (Angriff)). Last year the now 14 year old stallion went on tour in Europe with the US team ridden by Lauren, and the pair did exceptionally well. They not only won the CSIO Prize of Liebherr in St. Gallen, France, they then went on to place an unbelievably close second in Rotterdam by only .88 of a second. At Aachen, the USEF reports, "...They persevered through inclement weather as well. “He actually likes the mud and rain, so I wasn't disappointed to have to go in the changing conditions,” Hough revealed. “I felt quite confident that the ground is really good and I could take a chance.”Hough had help from Madden, who went before her and placed seventh on Abigail Wexner's Mademoiselle. “Beezie and George were really helpful; Beezie had gone before me and told me where I could do less strides than her. It was a really open, galloping jump-off, which suits him. He has a really big step. He's so handy (too).” Hough said she is “grateful to have a horse like this in my string.” She added, “In 99% of the shows he goes to, he comes home with a top three placing in a 1.50m class. Those horses are almost impossible to find. He can jump every day to win. I can't say enough great things about him. He always wants to please and win." Click here to read the USEF full report. So a huge congratulations to Lauren, Joan, and the whole Highlife Team! |

July 9th, 2010 - The Oldenburg Filly,
Allelujah, Overcomes Incredible Odds to Succeed and Win Championships Allelujah (Ruffian x Aster/Axiom) a 4 year old Oldenburg mare bred by Shari Glickman, ridden by Siobhan Byrne and owned by Elizabeth (Bobbin) Kreider, has had a fantastic show season at Training Level this year with many wins and scores in the 70% range. At PVDA’s Ride for Life the last weekend of June, Allelujah was Reserve Overall High Score of the large show as well as the Oldenburg High Score with a 71.786%!
Allelujah’s accomplishments are even more special
as she was born dysmature to a mare diagnosed with placentitis in the 9th
month of her pregnancy. Allelujah’s dam was treated for more than
two months with daily Regumate and Bactrim to prevent a pre-term
delivery. Because of the high-risk pregnancy, Allelujah’s dam was
transported to a veterinary hospital for close monitoring until foaling.
Weighing only about 50 lbs at birth, Allelujah could not stand
unassisted to nurse until she was several days old because of her severe
angular deformities. The original veterinary recommendation was to
euthanize her for it was felt the prognosis was guarded for this weak
filly to reach any sort of future athletic potential. When The morale of the story is to go with your gut even
if faced with what seems like insurmountable odds. |

June 24th, 2010 - Dreamscape Farm's Sir Gregory
Wins Big and is Now Fully Approved Dreamscape Farm is thrilled to announce that Sir Gregory (Sir Donnerhall x Premiere (Don Gregory)) has now completed his performance requirements for his permanent lifetime breeding approval, with the Oldenburg Verband and all the other associations he is licensed with. After having won his 30 Day Stallion Performance Test in Germany with an overall dressage index of 9.08, he had to do either the FEI Young Horse 5 or 6 year old Finals test (either this year or next), with an overall score of 8.0 or higher, and this test had to take place at either a National Championship Qualifying show or a competition which is a qualifier for the Young Horse Championships in Verden, Germany. The first show was sooner than they had originally planned. After being back in dressage training for only one month, rider Katrin Schmale and trainer Leslie Reid took Sir Gregory to the Southlands Dressage Show to show in the FEI young horse division. Photo below. Sir Gregory had an outstanding show. He won both of his classes by a good size margin, but most importantly on Saturday doing the 5 yr old FEI finals test Sir Gregory scored a super 8.1, which gave him the needed score. He scored over 8 or above on all his gaits, 8 walk, 8.2 Trot and 8.5 canter, he also received excellent comments and feedback on his test. Sir Gregory had the highest score of the entire show weekend and also the highest score from an FEI level judge. With Sir Gregory is it very nice to see a young stallion who is fulfilling the promise that was seen early on. He was named a premium foal and stallion prospect at his foal inspection, he went on to be a crowd favorite at his stallion licensing and was one of the highest selling colts in the stallion auction. So we congratulate Jennifer & Armin Arnoldt, Katrin Schmale and the whole Dreamscape Farm team! |

Kathryn imported the stallion in the fall of 2009, and the success got underway as soon as he started showing in 2010. Under David he was the Dressage Getaway Lower Level High Point Champion with a 76% and the Dressage Affair Lower Level High Point Champion with a 78%. In April they showed at the Festival of the Horse in Burbank. They won all of their First Level Test 3 and Test 4 classes by large margins, and with an outstanding score of 82.286% in Saturday's First Level Test 3 class, they were named the Open High Point Champion! |

June 17th, 2010 - The Oldenburg Stallion Rosall
is Featured on Dressage Daily The Oldenburg stallion, Rosall (Rosario x Liberty (Akzent II)) owned by Rosall Partners LLC which is managed by Wendy Costello was featured in an online article on Dressage Today. The young stallion is in training with JJ Tate and stands at Hassler Dressage. The article is about JJ and Wendy finding the beautiful stallion and their journey since. Rosall was bred by Josef Wernke, and although it is not mentioned, Rosall is originally registered with the German Oldenburg Verband, and was licensed in Vechta. His breeder, Josef Wernke, is a very well respected breeder in the Oldenburg region of Germany having bred the mare line of Love Story that has produced multiple Brilliant Ring champions. Love Story herself is in Rosall's mare line. Rosall went on to win his 30 Day Performance Test in Munich-Reim in 2007, and has completed his performance requirements by scoring up to 8.5 in the FEI Young Horse 6 year old tests last year. This means he is now fully approved by the GOV-OHBS. It should be noted that the 10 Day ISR Perfomance Test mentioned in the article is not recognized in any way shape or form by the German Oldenburg Verband or Oldenburg Horse Breeders' Society which follows the strict rules of the German Riding Federation and German Agricultural Commission. June 4 - 6th, 2010 - Oldenburgs Win Every Young
Horse Division at the
USEF/Markel East Coast Trials and VADA/Nova Dressage Show The weekend was a great one for many Oldenburg horses. The 5, & 6 year old USEF/Markel East Coast Trials were won by the Oldenburgs Suntreader and De Facto, and the large 4 & 5 year old USEF classes were won by Sakrementer and Somerhall. Suntreader (Sandro Hit x Rivage (Rubirando)) bred and owned by Dr. Pamela Erdman of Stone Mountain, GA was the star in the 5 year old division trained and ridden by Inga Janke. Inja reports that Suntreader has had an incredible year having won all three qualifications for these trials with an average score of 8.36. In these trials they won the preliminary test with a 7.9 and was tied for second in the final test with a 7.74. This lead to a weighed average of 7.804 which meant the victory for the division! Suntreader was inspected as a foal by the former Deputy Breeding Director of the Oldenburg Verband in Germany, Evelyn Vollstet, and was given the titles of Premium and Stallion Prospect. He is out of Pamela's mare, Rivage (Rubirando x Wisteria II (Caribo)) who is a half sister to Querido (Quando Quando x Wisteria II (Caribo)) who Inga rode to a first placed national USEF ranking in 2007. She and Querido won the FEI 5 year old test at the April VADA/Nova dressage show with an astounding score of 9.2. Dr. Pamela Erdman imported Querido as a 2 year old from Germany and sold him in 2008. The FEI 5 year old class which was not a part of the trials was won by the Oldenburg mare Somerhall (Sir Donnerhall x Arantscha B (Archipel)) bred in Germany by Theo Berkemeier, and owned and ridden by Ashley Wimmer with an excellent score of 7.94! The pair also did very well in the trials placing third in the preliminary test with a 7.76 and fourth in the final test with a 7.68 leading to a weighed average of 7.712 and a third place overall. With the help of Inga Janke, Ashley purchased the mare from Johannes Westendarp in Osnabruck, Germany and imported her in 2008. Ashley has been training the mare herself and is currently ranked 4th in the country. Also doing very well in the 5 year old USEF/Markel East Coast Trials was Crosiadore Farms' Sabati trained and ridden by Ulla Parker. The young gelding bred and owned by Nancy Holowekso of Crosiadore Farm did very well and not only was 4th place in the Preliminary Test, he then won the Final Test with an excellent score of 7.78. The scores are weighed 40% for the Preliminary Test and 60% for the final test, so Sabati ended up 4th in the overall results with a 7.604. He is sired by Sandro Hit and is out of the mare Rosalea (Rubinstein I x Argentina (Argentinus)). The 6 year old USEF/Markel East Coast Trials was won by the Oldenburg gelding, De Facto (Don Rubin x Fuerstenstern (Rouletto)) owned by Martha Singh and ridden by Christopher Schruefer. The pair won the preliminary test with a 7.74 and the final test with a 7.76 resulting in the weighed average of 7.752 which secured the victory! De Facto was bred by Sager, Berit and Jens Zuchtgemeinschaft. He was bought by Blue Horse in Denmark, and then later sold to Martha through Lars Petersen and Legacy Farms. De Facto has remarkably just gotten started in his show career. He won both of his 2nd level tests at his first show in White Fences under Christopher with scores of 71.316 and 70.270. At his first young horse competition he won with a fantastic score of 8.26 and he is currently ranked 3rd in the country on the USEF 6 year old list. Christopher is training with Lars and Scott Hassler and says that De Facto has "an incredible mind and is a pleasure to train and show." Sakrementer (Samarant x Weiha Cara (Westminster)) is really on a winning streak with rider Rick Rockefeller-Silvia. He won the very large 4 year old USEF Test with an excellent score of 80.4% just edging out the top ranked horse in the country, Somer Hit. Sakrementer's owners, Deborah and Rex Howe of HRH Holdings are excited about this young gelding along with the stallion they purchased at the same Fall Elite Auction, Douceur (Don Primero x Valderia (Royal Dance)) who was 5th in this test with a 76.200%. It was the young stallion's first outing, and all are sure he will only get better! Placing 3rd in the 4 year old class was De Feiner Star owned by Greg Strait and Melinda Brown of California, and ridden by Christopher Schruefer. The pair earned a great score of 7.72! Meg Sherman of Equistar Farm in Delaware bought De Feiner Star's dam, Feiner Dance, from Angela Barilar of High Point Hanoverians when she was in foal with De Feiner Star. The colt is by Angela's stallion, De Laurentis (De Niro x Chippy (Caprimond)). Feiner Dance is by Feiner Stern (Freiherr x Goldblatt (Goldstern)) and is out of Maya (Riverman x (Condino)). Meg sold him as a weanling to Greg and Melinda as a weanling. They elected to keep the colt on the East Coast where Leslie Feakins and Meg helped to prepare him for the breed shows and get him started under saddle. He was sent to Christopher as a three year old who has done a great job with him. He and De Feiner Star were invited by Scott Hassler to participate in the Young Horse and Trainer Symposium. The Oldenburg success in the USEF 4 year old class did not stop there. Crosiadore Farm also had the young mare, Biscaya, in the 4 year old test who did very well placing 4th with an excellent score of 76.40%. She is sired by Johnson and is out of Audrey (Argentinus x Gute Reise (Goldstern)). Nancy reports that she still needs to become more consistent in the canter work, but otherwise she is really on the right track and should develop quickly. The comments from the judges were very encouraging. So we congratulate all of these fantastic horses, riders, owners and trainers! We look forward to the 2010 USEF/Markel National Championships along with the future success from all of these talented young horses! |

June 5th, 2010 - The Summer Auction Was a Lot
of Fun as Liz Doherty Takes Home Sportsfreund and Rock Profoto and Ann
Kitchel Sells the Top Priced Foal The 48th Summer Mixed Sales Auction was a lot of fun. With the help of Jennifer and Juergen Hoffman of German Dressage, Liz Doherty won the bid for #1 Sportsfreund and #30 Rock Profoto! It took a bit of a twist of fate to secure the bid for #1 Sportsfreund (Sandro Hit x St.Pr.St. Ultra (Don Schufro)). Liz had bid up quite high in the initial bidding for him, but someone else raised the bid, and the hammer was knocked down for the other bidder. Liz had also had her eye set on #2 Sansvieria (Sandro Hit x Chelidon (De Niro), and with the help of the cool and collected Juergen Hoffman they bid up to 79,000 Euro for the spectacular mare. However, it was Ann Katrin Linsenhoff of the Gestüt Schafhof on the line bidding against them, and it was clear she was determined to win the bid. The seven year old mare who is registered as St.Pr.St. Stina earned her States Premium status in 2006 and was ranked in the Brilliant Ring having earned an outstanding overall score of 8.13. The hammer was knocked down at 80,000 Euro for the mare who had three exceptional gaits, and a fantastic character. Click here to see the video of the bidding for #2 Sansvieria. So at this point, Liz was obviously disappointed. She had other horses on her list, but these two had been her top choices. However, it turned out that the bid for #1 Sportsfreund had not been a legitimate bid, and within a few more horses he was brought back in for a second round of bidding. This time Liz was very determined, and she succeeded! She was elated, and is happy to report that he will be staying in Germany to be ridden and trained for a while by Heiko Klausing. The gelding has qualified for Rastede so we all look forward to seeing him there. Click here to see the bidding for #1 Sportsfreund. Jaye Cherry was also on hand to get some great horses for her colleagues and students. The first was #14 Dolby (Don Primero x St.Pr.St. Waldessa (Sunny-Boy)) who was purchased for Heather McCarthy of Illinois. The super gelding is out of the Brilliant Ring mare, Waldessa who stems from an excellent mare line that has produced numerous S Level (4th - FEI) dressage horses. The second was #20 Deportivo (De Kooning x Avance (Alabaster)) who Jaye was very excited about purchasing for her student Bryce Quinto of Burbank California. She said Bryce is a 13 year old who is dedicated and very talented! Click here to see the bidding for #14 Dolby and #20 Deportivo. So a total of 6 horses will be headed for the States, but that was not the only news for the US. To top it all off, the highest priced foal of the auction was bred and sold by Ann Kitchel of Huntington Farms in Vermont! The colt, Future Star was astounding and it was once again the international Grand Prix rider Ann Katrin Linsenhoff who will be taking him home. Future Star is sired by the upcoming stallion, Floriscount (Florencio I x El.St. Arkona (Donnerhall)) and he is out of Ann's mare, Frieda (Dormello x St.Pr.St. Fanessa (Silvio I)). Click here to see the video of #61 Future Star in the morning presentation.. Click here to see the video of the bidding for #61 Future Star. Ann Katrin Linsenhoff did not stop there either. She will also be taking home the top selling filly, #49 Die Fürstin (Don Romantic x Fürstin (Fürst Heinrich)). This filly's movement really had everyone talking! Click here to see the video of #49 Die Fuerstin in the morning presentation. Click here to see the video of the bidding for #49 Die Fürstin. These fantastic foals are all of course a preview of what will be offered at the Oldenburg Elite Foal Auction coming on August 28th, so be sure not to miss that! Students Have Multiple Success with their Oldenburg Horses This past weekend at the Once Again Farm dressage show in Meriden, Connecticut, Katja Eilers did very well with the Oldenburg gelding, Sir Conan Doyle winning both of his Training Level Classes. Sir Conan Doyle was just purchased by Lara Ceppi at the 2010 Spring Elite Auction under the auction name Sirventes. He is sired by Sir Donnerhall and is out of La Bijou (Lord Sinclair I). This follows up great results from the Centerline Events Dressage Show held at the Westbrook Hunt Club on May 22nd. Katja's student, Francesca Dolnier, was 2nd in the Young Horse Test of Choice class riding Sandor Hit in the USEF 4 year old class scoring an excellent 72.6%. Sandor Hit was also purchased at the 2010 Spring Elite Auction and was sold under the name Simpson M (Sandro Hit x Waldfee (Weltmeyer)). Katja also took the Oldenburg gelding, Sir Sutherland (Sir Donnerhall x Glorius (Glorieux)) to Saratoga, New York for the May ENYDCTA Dressage Show. Sir Sutherland was purchased at the 2009 Summer Mixed Sales Auction, and in Saratoga he did very well placing 6th and 7th scoring 64.4% both days in the Training Level Test 4. She also showed Sir Conan Doyle in this large and competitive show in the FEI 5 year old test. She reports that he did very well showing off his "newly learned flying changes" although, unfortunately, the judges weren't looking for those yet! He still placed 5th with a very respectable score and Katja is very excited about his future as he settles in with her. So congratulations to Katja, her students, and all of their great Oldenburg Auction horses! |

Pik will continue to be ridden at home as well as have his own time to relax in his turn out. Pik has had a much decorated career in the show ring. He has won multiple Championship Titles from Material Classes in Germany and USDF HOY Titles to Intermediaire II victories with scores as high as 73%. Pik has had the Honor of earning numerous highpoint awards at almost all of the competitions he has attended. Pik was also very successful in the Young Horse Classes here in the U.S. ranking among the top in the country as a 5 and 6 yr old receiving invitations to The Young Horse Finals and The Prestige’s Young Horse World Dressage Championships in Verden,Germany. Pik’s offspring have been exceeding all expectations! They have been wining all over the country in Dressage and Hunter/Jumper classes. Most recently the 3 yr old filly, Rehawk’s Prophecy, won her GOV Mare Performance Test in 2009 with very impressive marks for not only movement but also rideability. Pik’s offspring have been qualifying for The FEI young horse Championships as well as other Year End Championships and Awards. Since this decision comes slightly late in the breeding season German Dressage is offering a very special discounted breeding fee of $1200 (this includes fresh semen and LFG), for all mare owners wanting to breed to Pik’s Pride. They are hoping that mare owners will take advantage of this grand offer for such a magnificent stallion and they cannot wait to see more Pik babies throughout America! May 20th, 2010 - Ann Kitchel is Awarded in
Germany for Breeding the Champion Foal at the Gut Füchtel Open House Ann Kitchel of Huntington Farm in Vermont is thrilled with how well her colt was received by the judges at the Gut Füchtel foal inspection/show. Out of 34 foals from a very competitive area around Vechta, Germany her colt sired by Floriscount (Florencio-Donnerhall-Waldorf) and out of VP Frieda (Dormello-Silvio-Fernal) stole the hearts of the judges and the 300 people in attendance! The judges were Jens Meyer, Hans H. Brueing, and Uwe Heckmann who is the Auction Director of the Oldenburg Verband. They were unanimous in deciding that the colt should be the champion of the inspection and be awarded the premium title. He was also selected to be sold at the June Summer Mixed Sales Auction as an Elite Foal, and was later given the auction name 'Future Star'. Ann reports that this was Floriscount's first foal crop and "they were all super. One after the other...beautiful heads, necks and uphill movement." Foals sired by Statesman who Ann bred were also presented. She said the three foals by him were very nice, and she is "very proud to have bred such a spectacular stallion!" Floriscount was bred and is owned by Clemens von Merveldt of Gut Füchtel where the stallion stands. Statesman is owned by Lux-Dressage in Luxembourg. The third stallion represented on the sunny, beautiful day was Detroit (Dimaggio-Lord Liberty G-Goldlowe). So congratulations to Ann once again. We look forward to watching this super colt develop! |

May 19th, 2010 - Health Alert - USDA National
CEM Testing Effort Continues This is a follow-up to a message sent to you or to your organization in early February regarding a USDA initiative to test breeding stallions around the United States for the bacterium that causes contagious equine metritis (CEM). The testing is being carried out to help demonstrate that the United States equine population is free of CEM, or, if CEM exists here, it is only present at a very low level. The testing effort is currently underway and will continue until August 2010, so there is still time for owners of active breeding stallions to participate. USDA will pay the shipping and diagnostic laboratory testing costs for one set of samples, if stallion owners will pay the costs associated with collection of those samples by a USDA-accredited equine veterinarian. To participate, stallion owners need to get the approval of the USDA-APHIS Area Veterinarian in Charge, or the State Animal Health Official (e.g., State Veterinarian), for the State in which the stallion is to be sampled. To date no stallions have been found positive as part of this national testing effort, and there is only a very small chance that any stallions will be found positive. However, if a positive stallion is found, USDA will pay all costs associated with treating and re-testing that stallion until he is confirmed to be negative (CEM-free). Copied below are links to two USDA documents issued to inform stakeholders about the CEM national testing project. The first document is a stakeholder announcement and the second is a question and answer document. Please distribute these materials to anyone you think may find them useful. Feel free to include the links, or the linked content itself, in newsletters or other communication you send to your members, clients, colleagues, or constituents. May 13th, 2010 - Pablo Barrios of Venezuela
Wins the $5000 Open Jumper Class at the Kentucky Spring Horse Show With
the Oldenburg Gelding C&G LaGran The Kentucky Spring Horse Show got underway today at the picturesque Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. A brief thunderstorm rolled through during today's competition, but in the afternoon the sun started to appear and riders had the opportunity to compete for top prizes in the Main Stadium. Pablo Barrios (VEN) took home two blue ribbons after winning the $5,000 Open Jumper 1.40m class with the Oldenburg gelding G & C LaGran, and capturing the $5,000 open Jumper 1.45m victory aboard G & C Quick Star owned by G & C Farm, Gustavo & Carolina Mirabal. Barrios and LaGran beat 11 other clear entries when they completed a fault-free effort in 60.649 seconds. Barrios was thrilled with the performance of both his mounts during today's classes. "They both have fire, they both are careful, and they both find every jump," he noted. "It is a very nice feeling when you get to the ring and you know the horse is giving 100%. They are winners, they are fast, they are compact, and they are quick off the ground." Both horses will compete in the $55,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix on Sunday, and Barrios is considering G & C LaGran for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™, which will be hosted at the Kentucky Horse Park. "LaGran is getting better and better," explained Barrios. "He won the World Cup Qualifier at Palm Beach and he won a lot here last summer. He is becoming my best match right now and I feel very comfortable with him." The pair set a blazing pace during today's class that no one else was able to compete with. "I tried to be very efficient with my track and keep the rails up," said Barrios. "I saw the horse that was leading and I knew could maintain a more efficient track. I went very tight to the liverpool, I went tight the combination, and I think I left one stride out to fence eight and the water jump." Barrios continued, "LaGran is always fast and now he's doing the grand prix classes, so this is an easy class for him. I knew I could make very tight turns and let him gallop. He felt amazing today." C&G LaGran was bred by Rudolf Meyer of Westeremstek, Germany. LaGran was sired by Lancer II (Landgraf I x Inula (Fantus)), and he is a half brother to Sandro Boy being out of the same dam, Wiadora (Grannus x Walide (Argentinus)). |

![]() Wanja Gerlach ![]() Reiner K |
Terry Smith of Riverside Equestrian is very excited to have Wanja join her team. He was brought up in the German riding system, and even at a very young age showed tremendous potential which lead to a lot of success. By the age of 14 he had competed and won in the pony divisions at M level in dressage (3rd Level), 1.30 meters in jumping, and rode in the German National Pony Championships in eventing. He incredibly earned all three riding badges in the German Abzeichnen system; dressage, jumping, and theory, where one must be put through a full examination by licensed judges. This is a feat that is very rare to achieve. Out growing the ponies at 14, he began riding and competing horses. He competed youngsters up to CCI** in eventing, and rode up to 1.35 meters in jumping and M level in dressage. He went on to do his Bereiter apprenticeship at the LLS in Vechta where Hanno Vreden schooled. Hanno had won the 2001 and 2002 Bundeschampionate in eventing with his horse, Limited Edition. After 8 months Wanja changed barns to complete his apprenticeship under Bernhard Fischer in Wallenhorst where he was able to concentrate further on dressage. He learned to ride up to Grand Prix level and do handwork to help train the piaffe and passage. He passed his Bereiter exam in 2004 in Warendorf with an outstanding score of 2.51 (The best being a score of 1.0 and the worst being 6.0). He was selected to be the rider for the Stallion Performance Test held in 2009 at Silver Creek Farms in Oklahoma after answering their advertisement in the German St. Georg Magazine. He was very well received by the stallion owners, and Terry was more than happy with how he rode her Oldenburg stallion, Reiner K. Since Wanja comes from the same region in Germany as Johannes Westendarp whom Terry has ridden with and trusts, she felt Wanja would be perfect as a resident trainer. She made him the offer to stay on in Virginia, and he happily accepted the position! He is following up with Reiner K's training and it is going very well. Reiner was 4th in dressage with a great score of 109.45 and was 7th overall in the performance test, and Wanja and Terry expect great things in his future. Reiner K will be available to a small select group of mares as they will be concentrating on his training and competitive career. Wanja is available to take young horses in training at Riverside Equestrian. Since being in the US he has seen excellent young horses being bred here, and he is excited about working with them to get them going on the right track. Katja purchased her at the 2006 Elite Foal auction, and left her in Germany where she did exceptionally well in her Mare Performance Test earning an overall score of 7.83 and the States Premium title. Sunshine was just imported along with two new purchases of Katja's from the Spring Elite Auction held in March. In the auction she purchased #50 Sirventes (Sir Donnerhall x La Bijou (Lord Sinclair I)). You can scroll down to the auction report on this news page to see the video of Sirventes and read more about him. After the auction was concluded she approached the breeder/owner of #49 Simpson M (Sandro Hit x Waldfee (Weltmeyer)) and because he had not reached the price minimum the breeder/owner had set in the auction, she was able to make a good offer afterwards and purchase the wonderful gelding. So all three horses made the journey with no problems and Katja reports that she is very happy with the quarantine center Sunshine stayed with, the CEM Center Brookside Equestrian in Rhode Island. We congratulate Katja on her success with Sir Sutherland in the US, and we certainly look forward to more from the other three as well! |

Rider and trainer, Ulla Parker (formely Petersen), rode Federer (Fidertanz x Rosalea (Rubinstein I)) in the FEI young horse class, and the 4 year old performed like an old pro. He won the large class with a fantastic 81.8% earning a 9 for his walk! Federer (pictured here) is the next in line of the successful offspring of Nancy Holowesko's mare, Rosalea. His half-older brothers, Sabati and Steinway (Sandro Hit x Rosalea (Rubinstein I)) also did very well at the Morven Park show. Sabati placed second in the FEI Five Year Old Test with a score of 78.6%, and Steinway scored a great 75.4% in the FEI Six Year Old Test. All three geldings are currently ranked in the top 10 of their respective age categories in the USEF national young horse standings. Federer is 4th, Sabati is 9th, and Steinway is 3rd! So we wish Nancy, Ulla, and the whole Crosiadore team congratulations and good luck in the upcoming shows! |

![]() Charlie Jacobs and Quidditch II in Wellington, FL. Photo K. Russell ![]() Quidditch II in the Oldenburg Elite Auction sold under the name "Quickborn" |
April 9th, 2010 - Charlie Jacobs Pilots Quidditch II to the
Amateur-Owner High Jumper Circuit Championship at the Final Week of
Winter Equestrian Festival Charlie Jacobs rode his top mount Quidditch II to a final win in the twelfth week of the Winter Equestrian Festival(WEF) at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The duo stopped the clock at 36.176 seconds for the win in the Amateur-Owner Jumper High Power & Speed class. Jacobs and Quidditch II have had a very successful Winter Equestrian Festival show circuit which resulted in the pair earning the Amateur-Owner High Jumper Circuit Championship. Jacobs was elated with the final results of the entire circuit and was proud not only of his own accomplishments but his entire family's accomplishments for Deeridge Farm. Jacobs appreciates bringing Quidditch II to the ring well rested and feeling good. Over the 12 weeks of the circuit, the pair elected to show for 6 weeks. Jacobs employed the pattern of showing one week and then taking the following week off. Jacobs explained, "I elected to show Quidditch every other week so that by the end of the circuit she would have jumped a total of 6 weeks. During her weeks off I would not point her at a single jump. Instead I would take her out to the meadow at my family's farm and we would play a little game during our flat sessions. She is a very hot horse and the more you flat her the more animated and excited she progressively gets. We usually began with a very low-key trot for roughly 15 minutes in order for her to warm up and stretch her muscles. She remained quiet throughout the entire trotting portion of our flat work. In fact she was so quiet I could loose rein her around the field if I choose to do so. However almost on cue she would begin a series of playful bucks as soon as I would ask her to canter. She sees that open field and she just wants to run and have fun. I think that will be part of her routine for some time and I just enjoy how athletic and playful she has become." Jacobs continued, "I really enjoy how Quidditch expresses herself as she is so darn athletic. In fact over one jump in particular she lifted her hindquarters so high that her tail hit the top of my helmet. What a special mare." Winning the Amateur-Owner Jumper High Power & Speed class secured the 2010 WEF circuit championship for Jacobs and his mount. Jacobs was very excited about his win this week and his performance over the last twelve weeks. Adding the $50,000 CN Jumping Derby to his list of accomplishments with Quiditch II, Jacobs remarked, "I am so proud of both my horses. I feel darn lucky to have done so well at WEF." Quidditch II and Jacobs have only been a team for a short time. She was originally sold as a 4 year old who had already won at A level in jumping at the 61st Fall Elite Auction in Vechta, Germany under the name "Quickborn". She was bred and was owned at the time by Klaus Tietjen of Horstel, Germany, and she was known for her fantastic rideability, canter, and scope. Story and photo courtesy of Phelps Media. |

April 3rd, 2010 - Pablo Barrios of Venezuala Decides to Focus on the
World Equestrian Games After Winning the $150,000 World Cup
Qualifier CSI 3* with the Oldenburg Gelding C&G LaGran As reported by HunterJumperNews.com: Pablo Barrios of Venezuela stepped into the winner’s circle for the first time in a major FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) grand prix in the $150,000 FEI World Cup™ Grand Prix, CSI 3*, presented by Spy Coast Farm. He led the victory gallop in front of 4,800 show jumping fans on G&C LaGran, owned by Gustavo and Carolina Mirabal. In a class of 44 entries, there were six clear rounds that went on to contest the jump-off...Barrios and G&C LaGran went in knowing they had to go clear and just a touch faster to take the lead, which is exactly what they did. Barrios was able to push G&C LaGran through the course with a great turn back to the triple bar jump, and they stopped the timers in 41.75 seconds to take the lead. “This was his first grand prix here for this season,” Barrios said of LaGran. “He came fresh and felt really good in the warm-up. I really liked the course for him. Everything ended up good, with a victory! There were not that many clears; I was right after Jeffrey. I watched his track and know that my horse is pretty fast. I tried to stay just a little faster than him and tried to be clear. When I looked to the board, I knew I had the time.” C&G LaGran was bred by Rudolf Meyer of Westeremstek, Germany. LaGran was sired by Lancer II (Landgraf I x Inula (Fantus)), and he is a half brother to Sandro Boy being out of the same dam, Wiadora (Grannus x Walide (Argentinus)). March 27th, 2010 - The USA Goes on a Big Shopping Tour at the 72nd
Spring Elite Auction, and Marta Kauffman of California Wins the Bid
for the Top Priced Horse The 72nd Oldenburg Spring Elite Auction was fantastic this year sending home some very happy North American buyers! Especially Jaye Cherry who was on hand with her friend Kathy Marx to bid for Marta Kauffman of Los Angeles, California! The auction weekend started with a wonderful Gala Evening on Friday. Uwe Heckmann presided over the last exhibition of the auction horses that was interspersed with fun and beautiful performances. The grand opening of the evening was an ancient Roman soldier driving a chariot pulled by four Friesens. Quite a sight! Following that were two new foals both sired by Statesman, the 2008 bronze medalist of the Bundeschampionate that was bred by Ann Kitchel and is owned by Lux-Dressage. Both were very impressive! Click here for the video of the opening and the Statesman foals. Next up were the winners from the 2009 Oldenburg stallion licensing. The reserve champion of the OS licensing, Straviaty (Stalypso x Couleur Rubin) came in under saddle, and the champion and reserve champion of the Oldenburg licensing, Fairbanks (Flemmingh x nselfuerst) and Dante Weltino (Danone x Welt Hit II) were presented in hand. Click here for the video of the champion stallions. For the Arabian lovers, we were treated to a very special presentation. Gestüt Ismer in Ströhen, Germany is the largest Arabian breeding farm in Europe, and they brought not only Arabians who performed beautifully at liberty with a handler, but they also brought along an amazing Shagya Arabian jumper who is competing successfully at S level (up to 1.50 meter) in Germany. Click here to see the video of the Arabians. The World Equestrian Games are of course just around the corner, and we got a great preview from the defending silver medalist in vaulting, Gero Meyer. He explained the required elements in a world level vaulting routine, and then he gave a fantastic demonstration. After more auction horses, the evening came to a very impressive and fun end as we got to watch a top team of Border Collies herd four goats through all kinds of obstacles. It was called, "Harmony in Black and White". Click here to see the video of the vaulting and herding On Saturday afternoon, the auction got underway starting with the striking young stallion, Sohn der Sonne (Sir Donnerhall x Lady Like (Sion)). He is unique, not just because of his extraordinary gaits, but also because of his mare line which is the same successful mare line that has produced many Brilliant Ring champions as well as the stallion Feinbrand. The hammer knocked down at 100,000 Euro and he will be headed for Sweden. The big story of the day, however, for those of us in North America is the number of horses that were sold to the United States. Many American and Canadian bidders were on hand, and in the end 11 horses will be headed to the US and 2 to Canada. The top selling horse sold to Marta Kauffman of Los Angeles, California. Sailor Moon (Sandro Hit x Galana (Rohdiamant)) bred by H.W. Brinks of the Netherlands is an incredible stallion with three excellent gaits. Marta's trainer, Jaye Cherry, came to the auction to try the stallion, and did the bidding with the help of her friends, Kathy Marx and Johannes Westendarp. Bidders from Monaco and Australia put up a fight, and Uwe really took his time knocking the hammer down, but when he did everyone was ecstatic! Once Jaye was congratulated, the amazing stallion took a victory lap while the entire audience stood and the United States National Anthem was played. Click here for the video of #53 Sailor Moon. Another happy buyer was Christina Vinios who was accompanied by her parents Zachary and Lou. Together, they purchased the beautiful mover, #41 Folkestone (Fidertanz x El.St. Katullika (Rubinstein)). Christina has been very happy with the mare that she purchased at the 2008 Fall Elite Auction, Carina (Don Primero x Carmelita (Castro)). She is a full sister to last year's price record breaker, Don Primeur, who sold to the sponsors of Andreas Helgestrand of Denmark. We look forward to seeing a lot from Christina and her two fantastic horses! Click here for the video of #41 Folkestone. Of course, Monica Burssens was also on hand and she helped to ensure 5 horses will be headed for Florida! She was accompanied by John Howley of Florida who was looking for a horse for his wife. He was successful in the bid for the licensed stallion #12 Florencio's Son (Florencio I x Molinda (Lady's King)). The young stallion shows remarkable talent, including a very impressive canter that reveals his genes. His sire, Florencio was the double World Champion for the young dressage horses, winning both the 5 year old and 6 year old divisions two years in a row. Click here to see the video of #12 Florencio's Son. Aside from this, Monica did some serious bidding with her father, Patrick Burssens, and they were successful with 4 horses! They will all be heading for Florida to be trained for various clients at the International Dressage Academy of Wellington. The first one was #17 Carussel (Couleur Rouge x Cheez Nouz (Calypso II)) who coincidently was owned by Kathy Marx of California. Kathy had bought Carussel at an Oldenburg Auction as a foal, and decided that because she had grown so tall, it was better to re-sell her. The mare showed off a very powerful trot and canter, and has a super character. The next horses were #32 Pik Dame (Dionysos x St.Pr.St. Papermoon (Pik Ramiro)), #51 Sankt Peter (Sandro Hit x St.Pr.St. C'est Bon (Fuerst Heinrich)), and #Sir Deauville (Sir Donnerhall x Estella (De Niro)). All fantastic horses with excellent gaits! Click here to see the video of the Burssens' horses. Deputy Breeding Director, Katrin Burger, was happy to help Mackenzie Pooley of California bid over the phone for the stunning States Premium Mare Starlet M (Sandro Hit x St.Pr.St. De Luxe M (Donnerhall)). This mare is very interesting, not just for her own qualities, but also because she is a 3/4 sister to the successful Grand Prix stallion, Sansisco (Sandro Hit x Rosenfee (Rohdiamant)), who has recently been scoring above 70% at the young age of 8 years old. Sancisco's dam, Rosenfee is the granddam of Starlet M. Click here to see the video of Starlet M. Katja Eilers of Classical Dressage in Connecticut was also at the auction, and was successful in bidding for #50 Sirventes (Sir Donnerhall x La Bijou (Lord Sinclair I)). Katja is a German professional trainer, a Bereiterin, who moved to Connecticut from Germany many years ago to establish a training business there. We feel sure that she will be very happy with this wonderful young stallion. Cick here to see the video of #50 Sirventes. The two horses going to Canada are #2 Signore Rubinstein (Sir Donnerhall x Morelia (Rubinstein)), and #33 Cristallo (Colander x Zita (Zeus)). The licensed and performance tested stallion Signore Rubinstein was successfully bid for by Ulrich Henschke who was giving a helping hand to Evi Strausser who was on the telephone with him. This stallion is exceptional having received a 9.13 for his canter in his performance test. #33 Cristallo was successfully bid for by Tanya Hardy of Lochside Lane in Victoria, BC. Tanya is a very successful hunter jumper trainer and competitor, and this wonderful gelding will surely add to her collection! Be sure not to miss the upcoming Summer Mixed Sales auction which will be held at the Vechta Horse Center on June 5th! Lots of wonderful sport horses, broodmares, and foals. See you there! March 10th, 2010 - Mary Arnold and Rheining Scholar are Featured on the
Cover of Flying Changes Magazine Flying Changes is a monthly magazine that is also published online for "Northwest Sporthorse Enthusiasts", and OHBS member, Gayle Atkins was elated when the Oldenburg mare, Rheining Scholar (Rhodes Scholar x Grande Finale (Grundstein I)) that she bred and owns was featured on the cover being ridden by her friend and student, Mary Arnold. www.flyingchanges.com The artwork is a photographic composition created by photographer Mary Cornelius working with Gayle who also works in the design field. The finished piece was produced on a large, mounted canvas and was delivered to Mary Arnold as a Christmas gift from Gayle. Gayle is thrilled with her mare who the photographer describes as being "especially lovely", and is one that she loves to photograph. She is a special mare in Gayle's heart not only because she is showing 2nd Level with the intention of making it up to Grand Prix, but also because the mare overcame a deadly situation as foal. When Rheining Scholar was only 3 weeks old, she had a terrible bout of septicemia in her joints. She lived at the horse hospital for weeks on antibiotics and fluids, and had to be anesthetized 3 times so that her joints could be flushed. Amazingly she pulled out of it, and went on to develop into the wonderful, strong mare that she is. |

February 21st, 2010 - Charlie Jacobs
and Quidditch II Were Victorious In the Difficult $50,000 CN Jumping
Derby On Sunday, Charlie Jacobs, Principal Owner of the National Hockey League team, The Boston Bruins, took on 46 competitors in the $50,000 CN Jumping Derby at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center Stadium. Jacobs and his 10-year-old Oldenburg Quidditch II (Quattro B x Alcapri (Carprilli)) were one of only three competitors to go clean over the long derby course, designed by Richard Jeffery. Jacobs completed the course in 138.17 seconds, securing his win over Shane Sweetnam and Little Emir. The derby was challenging for many of the horses and rider combinations. Jacobs explained, "When I think of a derby I think about the amount of time it will take and how there will be many obstacles to maneuver. When walking the course Sunday, many of the riders may have thought about how the jumps didn't seem that large, around a 1.45 m, but then when they started galloping the course, it became a real test of endurance on both the horse and the rider." Jacobs competed with two young horses in the derby Quidditch II and his green, eight-year-old, Leap of Joy. Jacobs was very excited about his win and was also happy with how the course rode. "It was really special to have this big victory, but it was also unexpected. Regardless of where we placed, I was so happy with how Quidditch II rode over the course. She is definitely a horse that has some bigger days ahead of her." Quidditch II and Jacobs have only been a team for a short time. Buying her from the United Kingdom in September, and then shipping her directly to Florida, Jacobs has made a big effort to get to know her. He made the trip from New York to Florida quite often so he could flat Quidditch II and forge a relationship with her. Once the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) began, he started her in the Amateur-Owner Medium before moving up to the High Amateur's where they earned a second in the $15,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame class. Throughout WEF Jacobs has been challenging his young horses, especially Quidditch II, to build up their stamina and physical body. He started out this week by winning the $2,500 High Amateur-Owner Jumper with Quidditch II. Then with a one-day break Jacobs was able to approach the stadium course eager to compete. "I have the opportunity to ride at our family's lovely farm, gallop the large fields, and jump fences that simulate the derby fences," explained Jacobs. "I like to give my horses a 20-30 minute heavy cardio workout to prepare them for each class. Then when my horse needs rest I send her to the farm to relax, roll in the grass, and just be a horse." After WEF, Jacobs, will be staying in Florida through the winter and spring, and then will be taking his three top mounts Secret Love, Leap of Joy, and Quidditch II to Lake Placid, and Vermont. ![]() Leslie Morse on Tip Top ![]() Anky van Grunsven on Salinero and Isabel Werth on Satchmo ![]() Steffen Peters on Ravel |
In the beautiful balmy Florida weather, the 2010 Exquis World Dressage Masters opener was a great success at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington. Steffen Peters riding Ravel, the son of the Oldenburg stallion, Contango, wowed everyone when he won the opening Grand Prix. The super gelding stayed relaxed and elastic throughout the ride, and earned a 76.851% which put him in front of two of the top riders in the world. Anky van Grunsven was a close second on her Olympic gold medal mount, Salinero with a 74.638%, and Isabel Werth was third on her World Championships gold medal horse, Satchmo with a 72.533%. Of course, Isabel is coming off of a break after her suspension and having a baby only three months ago. She said she had some "unforced errors" that she feels had to do with needing to get back into the routine of showing. After the Grand Prix, the OHBS held a party at Tuny Page's beautiful Still Point Farm. It was a blast to see everyone and share great stories about horses, and of course the weather we were all escaping! The cocktail party was organized by the North American OHBS director, Holly Simensen, and the German Oldenburg Auction director, Thomas Rhinow, who was over from Germany for the event. Linda Zang, Patrick Bursens, Bent Jensen, Steve Kanikkeberg, Ilse Schwarz, Nancy Holowesko, Ulla Petersen, JJ Tate, Wendy Costello, Judy McGaughan, and of course Tuny were amongst the many guests who really enjoyed themselves. On Saturday, many braved the strong, crisp winds to come out and see Leslie Morse and the Oldenburg approved stallion, Tip Top, win the Grand Prix Special. The stallion was very impressive throughout the test, and even in spite of going off course, their scores were still high enough to win it. Placing second was Belinda Trussel riding Anton, and third was the youngest rider in the event, Elisabeth Austin riding Olivier. Even though the winds did not die down much, and the temperature sank along with the setting sun, the arena was packed for the evening Freestyle. German rider Anja Ploenzke riding her Oldenburg gelding, Le Mont d'Or (Landjuwel Gold x Wie Andrea) ran into some mistakes, but still put in a very nice ride earning a 69.950%. Steffen then raised the bar with his fantastic ride on Ravel earning an amazing 81.700%. Isabel Werth followed him and also put in a beautiful ride, but Satchmo lost his concentration for a moment and broke to trot in the middle of the canter zig zag which cost them. It was all up to Anky who rode last, and with the experience of a world class rider, she stepped up to the pressure and put in a truly breathtaking ride. She and Salinero earned an incredible 84.450% and huge applause from the appreciative audience. In the end the top three riders gave everyone a treat with a victory passage together. It was a fantastic sight, and we all certainly hope that the Exquis World Dressage Masters will continue to bring top European riders over to the US in the future! January 15th, 2010 - Oldenburg Stallion Couleur
Rubin Wins the CDI4* Championat der Stadt Basel Under Ludger Beerbaum The Oldenburg stallion Couleur Rubin (Cordalme' x St.Pr./El.St. Grannuschka (Grannus)) is living up to the promise he showed as a young jumper. This past weekend he won the 1.50 meter Preis der Stadt Basel at the CDI4* in Basel, Switzerland under rider Ludgar Beerbaum. Not only did Couleur Rubin win this very competitive class, he had only narrowly been beaten the day before by his own daughter, Castle Forbes Cosma Shiva, who won the International 1.45 meter class on Thursday under Irish rider, Jessica Kurten! His talent as a jumper and a sire didn't stop there either. Couleur Rubin's son, Couletto, was sixth in the Championat der Stadt Basel 1.50 meter class under French rider, Simon Delestre! Couleur Rubin stands at Pferdezucht Harli Seifert in Germany. |

January 15th, 2010 - Crosiadore Farm Celebrates as
Fiderline Wins the Graf Anton Günther von Oldenburg Award, and Quote Unquote Wins
the Alain Seheut Award of the 2009 Inspection Season In 2009, Nancy Holwesko of Crosiadore Farm in Trappe, Maryland presented a number of excellent foals and mares to the Oldenburg Horse Breeders' Society, and in the end she was honored by having both the top mare and top foal of the 2009 North American Inspection Season! The mare, Fiderline, who she bought at the 2006 Oldenburg Elite Foal Auction in Vechta, Germany had the highest scores of any mare at the two Mare Performance Tests held in 2009 in Maryland and California. The Deputy Breeding Director of the German Oldenburg Verband, Katrin Burger, commented that Fiderline would be very competitive with the best mares in Germany. Nancy's colt, Quote Unquote, was also outstanding. He is sired by Quaterback, and is out of Nancy's mare, Florenzio (by Florencio), who was the top mare of the 2008 inspection season. He is an exceptional type, and has three incredible gaits. This year, since there was a large debate between two colts, the committee decided to also give an honorable mention to the second colt they had been discussing. He was Redhawk's Don Sargasso (Don Schufro) bred and owned by Bob and Lynn De Gour of Redhawk Ranch in California. If you have an Oldenburg horse or Weser-Ems pony that has earned a Year End Award please send in a high resolution photo and your information to Oldenburghorseweb(at)hotmail.com. In the meantime we have received another story about Regional success. The Weser-Ems registered small horse, Santino (Sandreo x Gilla (Maior Domus)) performed beautifully in-hand, and was Reserve Grand Champion 2 year old Colt/Gelding for the Mid United States at the Mid-West Cosequin/USDF Breeders Series Finals! The judges, Kristi Wysocki and Peter Hansen of Denmark were very impressed with the young horse. Santino was bred by Klaus Biesenthal of Bell Oaks Farm in Freeport Illinois, and is owned by Autumn Fox. She reports that he will be getting started under saddle this winter. After the show she stayed in touch with Peter Hansen who is a certified professional trainer from Denmark. He will be the one getting Santino started, and Autumn will be joining him for training in May. December 19th, 2009 - The First Ever
70 Day Stallion Performance Test and Second 30 Day Test Has Concluded With Great Results for OHBS-GOV Approved Stallions! The 70 Day and 30 Day Stallion Performance Tests just wrapped up at Silver Creek Farm in Oklahoma, and it was Rolling Stone Farm's Shakespeare RSF that was the "clear winner" according to OHBS Director, Holly Simensen. The young Hanoverian stallion that is now fully approved by the OHBS-GOV is sired by the legendary Oldenburg Stallion, Sandro Hit (Photo top by Susan J. Stickle). He won the dressage with an incredible score of 136.01, and was 5th in the jumping with a 105.42 leading to a wonderful overall score of 130.92. Another stallion owned by Mo Swanson of Rolling Stone Farm also did exceptionally well at the test. The 2004 Oldenburg stallion, Fhitzgerald (Florencio x Weltlady (Weltmeyer)) was 5th overall, 5th in dressage, and 4th in jumping! Mo found Fhitzgerald on a buying trip in Germany as a foal in the area around Frankfurt and bought him from his breeder, Wolfgang Sames. Having managed one of the largest breeding operations in the US, and stood internationally successful Grand Prix stallions such as Welcome S, Mo has obviously developed a great eye for a horse. She feels Fhitzgerald has talent in both disciplines, but could be especially interesting for the hunter breeders out there because of his fantastic character and style of jumping. The Oldenburg stallion, Reiner K (Rosenthal x Fiona (Feiner Graf)) also did very well, and is now fully approved due to his results. He was bred and is owned by Terry Smith of Riverside Equestrian who must be thrilled! He was 7th overall with a great dressage score of 109.45! Pictured middle. Photo by Stephanie Law. In the 30 Day Test, Sandro Class (Sandro Hit x World Class (First Class) bred and owned by Brenda Hendershot earned excellent scores having been given a 9.13 for Interior, and 8.25 for rideability! Brenda is very happy with her young stallion and notes that it is his fantastic character that really stood out. She said that the judges and riders commented often on how well he behaved and how much they enjoyed working with him. She will be preparing him for the 5 year old dressage tests this coming year. Photo bottom by Susan McAdoo. We congratulate them all on a job well done! Click here to see the full results from Silver Creek Farm. |

and Dolomit Have Won the 2009 Connecticut Freestyle Championship Cindy Snowden is elated over the success she has had with her up and coming Oldenburg gelding, Dolomit. They did very well at Prix St. George and Intermediare I this year, and to top it all off, they wrapped up the 2009 Connecticut Freestyle Championship! This championship is sponsored by Ann Guptill and her husband, Ed Larusso's company, Equestrian Arts Productions. Certain competitions are designated as qualifiers, and one must have at least three scores from these qualifying competitions. The scores are then averaged, and Dolomit and Cindy's median score of 72.5% put them on top! So congratulations again to Cindy and Dolomit! |

the 2009 Licensing will be Named "Fairbanks" Louise and Doug Leatherdale are very excited about their new stallion that they are now calling "Fairbanks". The Oldenburg licensing champion sired by Flemmingh and out of St.Pr.St. Identify by Inselfuerst really impressed the crowds and the judges at the licensing. Since then, the Leatherdales report that their rider, Steffen, started him last week and said he was a dream to work with. Louise said, "I can not wait to finally see him in person next month when we come to Germany again. It's so very hard to be so far away from my "boys"." |

For the second time this year, Danish Olympic dressage rider, Andreas Helgestrand and his sponsors Ole and Lotte Vagner, bought the top priced horse at an Oldenburg auction in Vechta, Germany. This time it was the beautiful gelding, Star Agent (Sandro Hit x Aparecida (Argentinus)) bred by Barbara Bettin-Schulze-Schleppinghoff. Star Agent stems from the Oldenburg mare line of Burga that has produced Olympic horses. Also in attendance was Canadian Olympic rider and trainer, Evi Strasser, who won the bid for Dow Jones (Don Larino x St.Pr.St. Fatima (Rouletto)). Dow Jones has already won and placed at A level in dressage. The other highlight was the sale of the young stallion Diamond Song (Diamond Hit x Wunita (Sandro Song)) who sold to Germany for 55,000 Euro. Click here for the full results. |

December 1st, 2009 - Oldenburgs Have
Exceptional Success in the Regional Finals and Year End Awards As the USEF and USDF All Breed Awards are being tallied and confirmed, we are starting to get the great news of success from our members and the horses they bred, own, and/or ride! The USDF/Oldenburg All Breeds Awards have been finalized and they will be published on this website in January and will be featured in Issue 1, 2010 of the magazine which should be out in March. In the meantime we have received the following stories about Regional success. MW Donnahall (Florencio I x Dein Liebling (Donnerhall)) bred and owned by Jen Vanover of Maplewood Warmbloods LLC in New York was the Three Year Old Champion in the USDF Region 8 Year End Awards. She scored an average of 77.6% in the Dressage Breeding classes leading to this prestigious championship. (pictured top) Jen was also thrilled with the success of her 2009 Premium colt, MW Sambuca (Sandro Hit x Riva (Rosenkavalier)) who was Reserve Champion in the Region 8 Year End Awards in the Dressage Breeding Colts of 2009. He scored an average of 72.9%! Mo Swanson of Rolling Stone Farm in Pennsylvania owns and operates one of the largest sport horse breeding facilities in the country, but she still takes the time to follow up on the wonderful horses that she breeds or imports. One such mare is Rhomance, better known by her show name as Saphira (Florencio x Roxina (Chairman)) who Mo imported as a yearling, raised and then sold to John McGuire. The mare who was bred by Wolfgang Sames had incredible success in the Region 2 Championships at Lamplight Farm which were held in early October. Under rider Heather McCarthy she won all of her Training Level classes with incredible scores up to 77.143%!! She then went on to win the GAIG Open Training Level Championships with a 75.4%! (pictured middle) Luxe Sport Horses' Serengeti ridden by Sheryl Williams also had a great year in 2009 at Training level. Serengeti, a 5 year old bay imported mare by Stedinger out of a Sevillano xx mare, had an average for the year of 76.76%, and was Year End High Point Open Training Level Champion of Victoria Saanich Cadora. Especially impressive was the high score of the Capitol City Classic show of 79.2% judged by Hilda Gurney! (pictured bottom, photo: Mathew Simonyi) So check back in early January to read more about all the great Year End Award successes! |

November 21st, 2009 - The Flemmingh x
Inselfürst Colt is the Oldenburg Champion and another Last Man Standing
Colt is OS Champion of the Haupt Körung at the 2009 Oldenburg Stallion
Days It was a fantastic three days packed full with exceptional young stallions being presented and evaluated to be licensed for breeding with both the Verband der Züchter des Oldenburger Pferdes and the jumper division, Springpferdezuchtverband Oldenburg-International known as the OS. The young stallions being presented had already gone through a pre-selection process held in October where around 400 stallions took part. Out of these only the top 42 stallions from the Oldenburg Verband and 32 stallions from the OS were selected to come to this Haupt Körung, or Main Stallion Licensing. The evaluations began with the stallions being presented in trot and walk on the hard pavement. Right away the big gray colt, #10 Flemmingh x St.Pr.St. Identify (Inselfürst) bred by Aloys Schmidt got everyone talking. His movement on the pavement was excellent and his presence and type was outstanding. Of course there were many more that were also outstanding, and it would take the full two days of evaluations for the committee to really decide. One of the most interesting parts of the Oldenburg evaluations is the new addition of lunging. In the past the stallions were simply trotted around a triangle, but starting last year the committee decided to lunge the stallions with simple side reins to get a better idea about their ability to balance themselves and more clearly see the mechanics of their gaits and hind legs when going on the circle. Since #10 is quite tall, he may not have balanced himself as well as some of the others, but nonetheless he was very good on the lunge and the mechanics of his hind leg and natural uphill movement were maintained. The following day, all of the stallions came back into the arena one by one, were presented at liberty, and then were free jumped. At this point the champion may have looked a little tired in his hind leg, but again was fluid and his presence and expression were undeniable. His breeding is of course very interesting and different for the Oldenburg Verband. In a recent article that the head of the Licensing committee, Dr. Schulze-Schleppinghof, wrote about stallion lines, he commented that the only place where top dressage stallions could be found outside of Germany was the Netherlands. In this case the stallion, Flemmingh, is in fact German bred having been registered as a Holsteiner foal, but he was taken to the Netherlands and approved there as a stallion not for jumper breeding, but for dressage. He has been in the lines of top dressage horses having directly sired the internationally successful Grand Prix horses Krack C and Lingh. Lingh, ridden by Edward Gal, was the Reserve Champion at the 2005 World Cup in Las Vegas, and is now owned and ridden by Karen Offield. Flemmingh also sired Santino and Regent who won individual and team gold at the 2007 Pan American Games, and before his death in 2007 he was ranked 6th in the world on the leading dressage sires list. His damsire, Inselfürst (Inschallah AA x Wega (Futuro)) scored one of the highest dressage index scores in his stallion performance test ever recorded, 155.18. He went on to be the Oldenburg State champion for the 6 year old dressage horses in 1992 and has sired champions such as Ironman who not only has sired many successful dressage horses, but who was also the 2007 USEF Sire of the Year for Hunter Breeding. #10's mare line then goes back to Argentinus who was arguably a jumper and sired many top jumpers, but he has also sired internationally successful Grand Prix dressage horses such as Amaretto ridden by Isabel Werth, Aleppo S ridden by Ellen Schulten-Baumer, and European Champion Gold medalist Albano ridden by Heike Kemmer. In other words, this champion colt's bloodlines are a veritable who's who of dressage breeding. In the end, the expressive movement, incredible type, and the interesting bloodlines were the factors that lead to the Flemmingh x St.Pr.St. Identify (Inselfürst) colt becoming the champion of the 2009 licensing. Following this announcement he was auctioned for the top price of 250,000 Euro, and interestingly he was purchased by Doug and Louise Leatherdale of Leatherdale Farms, Minnesota. Doug Leatherdale is the president of the American Hanoverian Society, and this was the first time they have purchased an Oldenburg stallion. He will be staying in Germany and will stand at Hengststation Jens Meyer along with many of the Leatherdales other top stallions. Click here to see the video of #10 lunging. Click here to see the video of #10 at liberty and free jumping. Click here to see the final ring and victory round for #10. A special treat was held later in the stallion show when the Champion was brought out with his grandfather, Lacapo who is now 30 years old. Click here to see the video of #10 and Lacapo. The Reserve Champion stallion was the expressive and very balanced colt, #2 sired by Danone I and out of St.Pr.St. Rihanna (Welt Hit II x Vb.Pr.St. Riconess (Noble Roi xx)). He really showed his talent on the lunge line cantering and trotting effortlessly maintaining his frame and uphill movement. He was bred by Olaf Bahls and stemming from the very successful Oldenburg mare line of Richilda, he was sold at the 2007 Elite Foal auction to Ernst Kemper of Borken, Germany. In this auction he was sold initially to someone whose sponsor could not fund the bid, so he was brought back in at the end and sold to the Dressurpferde Leistungszentrum in Lodbergen, Germany where Grand Prix rider Markus Gribbe is the head trainer. Click here to see #2 lunging, at liberty and free jumping. Click here to see the final ring and victory round for #2. The third placed stallion is a son of the Hanoverian licensing champion, Hotline (Hofrat x De Nira (De Niro)), and is out of one of the most successful Oldenburg mare lines. His dam, St.Pr./El.St. Merethe (Florestan I x St.Pr./El.St. Maradonna (Donnerhall)) is out of the same dam as last year's licensing champion, Furstenball. Furstenball was not only the licensing champion, he recently won his 70 day performance test in Schlieckau scoring an incredible 154,99 for dressage and having a final total of 145.25. The Hotline colt, #16 was bred by Georg Sieverding and is owned by Blue Hors of Denmark. Click here to see #16 lunging, at liberty and free jumping. Click here to see the final ring and victory round for #16. The fourth placed stallion was #30 sired by Sir Donnerhall and out of Kira K (Banditentraum x El.St. Kanessa (Schwalbenherbst)). He stems from the well known Trakehner damline of Kassette which is the same line as stallions such as Kostolany were bred from. #30 was bred by Annemarie Krause and is owned by Maria Ring of Sweden and Paul Schockemoehle. Click here to see the video of #30 lunging, at liberty, and free jumping. Click here to see the final ring and victory round for #30. The fifth placed stallion was #1 sired by Belissimo M and out of St.Pr.St. Faberge (Florestan x Diora Divina (Donnerhall)). Faberge was a Brilliant Ring mare in 2003, and stems from the mareline of Steinrose. #1 was bred by Kamma Beirholm and is owned by Heinrich Ramsbrock and Kamma Beirholm. Click here to see the video of #1 lunging, at liberty, and free jumping. Click here to see the final ring and victory round for #1. The auction was successful given the financial situation and everyone at the Verband was more than happy with the results. Many of the stallions sold to countries outside of Germany, and #8 who is the full brother to the 2008 Brilliant Ring champion, Weihegold, was purchased by the American FEI level dressage rider, Jane Cleveland of Tennessee. She was thrilled to have won the bid for this remarkable horse who is obviously going through a growth spurt which most felt affected his chances at this licensing. The pair is sure to do very well together in the future! Click here to see the video of #8 Everyone was very impressed with how well the OS program is developing. The depth of talent went much further this year than in past years, and the stallions were good movers and very modern types. The champion was not only a half brother to last year's phenom, Le Champ Ask, he comes from the same breeding family having been bred by the Möller brothers. #61 was sired again by Last Man Standing and is out of Caletta (Conteros x Dorina IV (Caletto I)). #61 showed exceptional form and talent over the jumps. Click here to see the video of the OS Champion, #61
The Reserve OS Champion was #72 sired by Stalypso and out of Celline (Couleur-Rubin x Makimono (Carprilli)). He was bred by Wilhelm Meiners and is owned by Erich Stevens. Click here to see the video of #72 The third placed stallion was #54 sired by Clarimo and out of Lovely (Stauffenberg x Graefin (Ahorn Z)). He was bred by Carsten Schultz and is owned by Equo Reitsport GmbH. Click here to see the video of #54 The fourth placed stallion was #73 sired by Toulon and out of Gold Patch (Pardarco x Goldess (Dimenos)). He was bred and is owned by Gestuet Lewitz. Click here to see the video of #73. The fifth placed stallion was #52 sired by Check In and out of Vb.Pr.St. Walanda (Landadel x Vb.Pr.St. Waskia (Andiamo)). He was bred by Andreas Tabeling and is out of Franz R. Sanktjohanser. Click here to see the video of #52. Following the awarding of this year's champions, the Haupt Premium awards were announced. This award is given to a 5 yr. old Oldenburg stallion that has had success in his performance test, in sport, and with his foals. The jumper Haupt Premium stallion for 2009 is Cornet's Prinz (Cornet Obolensky x Almoxella O (Almox Prints)) bred by Willi Ottmann and owned by Gestüt Klatte. Click here to see Cornet's Prinz. The dressage Haupt Premium stallion for 2009 is Fürst Romacier (Fürst Heinrich x Ronja (Romancier)) bred by Lothar Schulze and owned by Gestüt Lewitz. Click here to see Fürst Romancier. The conclusion to all of these exciting days was the wonderful evening performance of the older stallions in what is called the "Stallion Parade". Stallions from around Germany and Europe were invited to show themselves off to the breeders in attendance. There were so many great stallions it was impossible to video them all. The following were the standouts:
The VTF awarded dressage stallion presented in the stallion show was the 8 year old Sancisco (Sandro Hit x Rosenfee (Rohdiamant)) who has had wins at Grand Prix under rider Ronald Lüders including a recent win in Zierow at Grand Prix with scores above 72%. He was bred by Elisabeth Münstermann and is owned by Gestüt Kempke Hof. Click here to see the video of Sancisco.

October 2- 3rd, 2009 - On His 30th
Anniversary Auction, Uwe Heckmann and the Oldenburg Team Take the
Financial Crisis and Throw it Out the Window in More Ways Than One It was an incredible and magical 30th anniversary for the Oldenburg Auctioneer and Auction Director, Uwe Heckmann. On Friday evening one of the best ever Gala Evening performances was arranged, mostly by Uwe himself, but combined with a few surprises from his auction team, and this is how it all started. The Oldenburg band played to slides from the past, and then it went into a surprise introduction for Uwe. He did not know that he was going to be introduced in song by a British Jumper rider turned professional singer, Stephen Richard, and it clearly humbled him. Click here to see the video of the Gala Evening Introduction. Following this a group of important guests of the festival were brought into the arena via white horse and carriage. The most honored of them being Helga Köhler, the wife of Hans Joachim Köhler, who won not only the German National Championships but also the European Championships in jumping in 1962, and competed successfully for years having been an auction rider in Verden from 1949 to 1983. She had helped to bring along a young man in the world of vaulting, riding and auctions, and his name was Uwe Heckmann. She was accompanied by political leaders such as the German Family Minister, Ursula von der Leyen who was also a former auction rider from Verden. She gave a very nice speech praising Uwe's accomplishments and development over the years. They then all stood by as a portrait was brought out and presented to Uwe from the Oldenburg Verband. After that the show went on with presentations of the Auction horses and Champions from this year. The Reserve Champion of the 3 year old stallions at the 2009 Bundeschampionate, So What A Feeling, was presented along with ERA Wunderschöne and Weihegold OLD who both medaled in their respective Bundeschampionate divisions. Following them was the 2009 Weser-Ems Dream Team comprised first of the 5 year old Jumper Bundeschampion, Haribo and the Team Bronze medalist of the European Championships, Pepper Ann. They were then joined by the Bundeschampion of the 4 year old pony stallions, Casino Royale K WE, and the Reserve Bundeschampion from the same division, Batida de Coco WE. Click here to see the video highlights of the Weser-Ems Ponies of 2009. The next presentation was titled, "The Father and Son". It was in honor of Rene' Tebel who won the Bundeschampionship of the 6 year old jumper horses with the incredible stallion, Con Air OLD, and his son, Maurice Tebbel who won a team bronze medal at the 2009 European Championships on the pony Giovanni. Click here to see the video highlights of Con Air and Giovanni. Following them was a fun presentation of children riding their ponies to the Lion King, and then a beautiful vaulting freestyle routine presented by the 2009 German National silver medalist, Torben Jacobs. Click here to see the Lion King and Vaulting from Torben Jacobs. Also being honored in between these two presentations was the breeder of Sterntaler OLD, Wilhelm Middelbeck. Sterntaler has won a number of top Grand Prix's including some CDI's, and was in the top ten in the European Championships at Windsor. After a little comedy break centered on Uwe (another surprise from the Auction Team!),Eventer Ina Tapken riding London-Return OLD, Jan Klugmann riding Nightfire, and Mario Stevens riding Corlanda OLD were all honored. Ina Tapken and London-Return (Lifestyle x Corradino) just won double gold at the 2009 European Eventing Championships, Jan Klugmann and Nightfire (Nobeltanzer x Rinaldo) won team gold at the Junior European Eventing Championships, and Mario Stevens rode Corlanda OLD to World Championship Jumper Silver. Click here to see the video of London-Return OLD, Nightfire, and Corlanda OLD. Following this was one of the most entertaining presentations of the evening. Well known breeders and riders were called out from the audience, and the two time European Cutting Champion, Jörg Pasternak proceeded to demonstrate his sport by "cutting people". He of course had to explain to the group that they were supposed to be afraid of horses, and not pet them asking the audience, "Have you ever seen a cow pet a horse??". At one point he "cut out" international dressage rider, Markus Gribbe, but Markus put some moves on his horse that a cow of course could not. Jörg complained a little that his "cows" were not following the rules! He then "cut" Josef Klaphake and decided to trade places with him letting Josef take the saddle. The audience was rolling and really appreciated the athleticism being displayed. Click here to see the video of "Cutting People". The finale of the Gala Evening was a beautiful demonstration by US Olympic rider, Michelle Gibson on Diamante Farm's young stallion, Don Angelo. She rode to music, and then the Oldenburg Verband honored the United States by having a soloist come out and sing the United States National Anthem. They then concluded with the band playing the Oldenburg Hymn. Click here for the video of Michelle and Don Angelo's demonstration. Click here for the video of the US National Anthem and Oldenburg Hymn. On Saturday, the Uwe and the auction team continued to throw the financial crisis out the window, not just by entertaining everyone so much that they forgot the troubles outside the door, but by breaking both the German price record for the sale of a Riding Horse and setting a new Oldenburg average price record! The highlight of this was of course the sale of #11 Don Primeur (Don Primero x Carmelita (Castro)) who had won the Oldenburg State Championships for the 3 year old Mares and Geldings with fantastic scores. He was unable to attend the Bundeschampionate because his vaccinations were not up to date, but the buzz about his extraordinary talent got around to the top trainers in Europe fast. All of the top names either came and personally tried him, or had agents looking at him. In the end it came down to a bidding fight between Austrian Olympic rider Sissi Max-Theurer, Swedish Agent Johan Ifverson, and Andreas Helgestrand calling in from Denmark with his sponsors, Ole and Lotte Vagner. After working to convince Sissi to go higher, Uwe was happily surprised when Johan took the bid to 500,000 Euro. Just as they all thought it was over, Andreas gave the bid of 505,000 Euro calling from Denmark. Johan laughed and said he could not go higher so the hammer went down for Denmark! Interestingly Patrick Burssens of Wellington, Florida bought Don Primeur's full brother, and last year Christina Vinios of Massachusetts bought his full sister. She is now in training with Robert Dover with her. Click here to see the bidding for Don Primeur. The second highest priced horse of the auction was the remarkable stallion, Starlight, who looked incredible in the Gala Evening performance and during the bidding. Although the bidding went fast, and his owner, Rick Rockefeller Silvia of Dream Street Stallions was sad about having to sell him (because how do you put a price on a stallion that has brought a person so much and achieved so much!) the amount was very substantial and the buyers were extremely happy. He will be going into training with Julia Katharina von Platen who has been very successful riding the stallion Capuccino at Grand Prix. His owners have an 18 year old daughter who will then take up the reins and compete him on the very competitive Young Riders circuit in Germany, and hopefully internationally. It was reported by the grooms in the barn that the daughter was in Starlight's stall after the bidding crying and crying because she couldn't believe the horse was really hers. Click here for the video of Starlight. Rick and his good friends Deborah and Rex Howe of Jacksonville, Florida stayed on and purchased 3 horses. Deborah was a ground breaking woman in professional car racing in Daytona and then on the Formula 1 circuit in Europe. She then opened a number of car dealerships, and now has turned her interests to dressage and top horses. Along with clients that Rick was in touch with on the phone, they purchased #12 Doceur (Don Primero x Valderia (Royal Dance)) whose granddam, Valdivia is full sister to Via Mala who was the Grand Champion at Devon in 1988. Click here to see the bidding for Douceur. They also purchased the very impressive stallion, #37 Sakramenter (Samarant x Weiha Cara (Westminster)). Click here to see the bidding for Sakramenter. Finally, Rick was successful bidding for the licensed Florencio son, #60 Fergonn (Florencio x Blue Hill (Hill Hawk xx)). The director of the North American Oldenburg Horse Breeders' Society, Holly Simensen was of course on hand and helped clients through the whole process. One very happy moment for her was in bidding for Christine Williams of Vancouver, Canada. Calling in to Holly from Canada, Christine went for the State Premium candidate, #4 Shirley M (Sandro Hit x Rosenfee (Rohdiamant)) who has excellent bloodlines and three super gaits. Click here for the bidding for Shirley M. Another Vancouver based rider is the Hunter rider, Tanya Harding, who has been a faithful client of the Oldenburg auctions. This time she brought a young couple with her who had a lot of fun as Tanya won the bids for two exceptional jumpers for them. The first was the approved stallion #8 Baloumiro (Balout du Rouet x Rasante (Ramiro Z)) who was a finalist in the 2008 and has won multiple jumper shows in Germany. Click here for the bidding for Baloumiro. The second was the wonderfully quiet and rhythmical mare, # 19 Grace de Luxe (Conterno Grande x Gina Corina (Corradino)). Click here for the bidding for Grace de Luxe. Having driven over from where she is training in the Netherlands, Monica Burssens was on hand to bid for clients of hers and her fathers at the International Dressage Academy in Wellington, Florida. She was successful in bidding for the wonderful mover #22 Biolek (Biotop x White Drogida (Duntroon)). Click here for the bidding for Biolek. Monica was also successful in bidding for the colt, #7 Stolzer Eduard (Swarovski x St.Pr.St. Admirage (Fuerst Heinrich)) who was given the award, "Stallion Prospect" by the Oldenburg inspection committee. Jennifer Hoffman of German Dressage in California was also on hand with her client, Liz Doherty who successfully went after the stunning gelding, #5 Shantaram (Sir Donnerhall x Edella K (Rohdiamant)). Having already won some young horse dressage tests in Germany, he is sure to go on to a great career in California. The bidding was unfortunately missed, but please click on the results list below to see a video of the gelding. Liz will be shipping him directly to California where they will begin their training under Jennifer at German Dressage. Obviously saving the best for last, Michelle Gibson helped her client Joanne Stoudenmier of Crosby, Texas in the bidding for the Verband Premium Mare #68 Chica H (Chico's Boy x St.Pr.St. World Line (World Cup II)) who has already won A Level dressage tests in Germany and stems from a very successful mare line. Sitting with Terry Kane of Diamante Farms and Pelle Wedenmark of Wellington, Florida, Michelle helped her very happy client win the bid. Click here for the bidding for Chica H. The prices for the foals were also very good. The highest priced foal was the colt and stallion prospect, #27 Winehouse (Wynton x St.Pr./El.St. Maradonna (Donnerhall)) who is out of the dam of the 2008 Licensing champion Fürstenball. It was a big fight between Spain, Ann Katrin Linsenhoff and Lone Jorgensen of Denmark who owns Fürstenball. With help from Johannes Westendarp, it was Denmark that won the bid at a record price for a foal sold at a Fall Auction, 58,000 Euro. Click here to see the bidding for Winehouse. Also happily winning the bid for the beautiful filly, #32 Lorettina (For Compliment x Linou (Likoto xx)) with very interesting bloodlines was Jane Cleveland of Tennessee who called in to Holly for the bid. The filly is a great-granddaughter of Loretta, the dam of Sandro Hit, Royal Hit, and Diamond Hit. Click here for the bidding for Lorettina. In all, Uwe Heckmann, the Verband, and the Auction Team were all very happy with the results, and look forward now to the Main Stallion Licensing to be held November 19-21st in Vechta, Germany. Don't miss it!! Click here for the full Auction Results.
